Smoot Wants Rail Line

Posted by ALmod on November 14, 2005

Here we go again. Why do we need this? How does this benefit Jefferson County as a whole? Why should the money for this project come from county money instead of from private investors and from those cities involved?

I can answer the last question. They don’t have the money, and they will never have it. Private investors know that this is not a good idea and that it is unlikely to create revenue. It’s just another financial sinkhole.

Why on earth do the Democrats in Jefferson County insist on turning government into something it was never meant to be? Government is in place to uphold law, maintain public facilities, provide schools, and facilitate schools. Those silly concepts like “establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty” are rarely mentioned and often overlooked these days. Instead, we have politicians who are intent on having the government run businesses. Not a good idea.

And of course, Larry Langford and John Rogers will offer their unbending support to this, which is never a good sign. My suggestion is what it has always been. Let the voters of Jefferson county decide what they would like done with their tax dollars, and then stick with that. Not that they would ever do something like that.
