Fairfield Finds New Ways to Take Out the Trash

Posted by ALmod on November 15, 2005

It seems that Fairfield has decided to no longer provide their own garbage pick-up service. For once, I think they have the right idea. The city budget is already too tight, and this is a great way to free up some money. There are other ways that the city could increase revenue or decrease spending, but that’s another story. Remember, these guys are still recovering from when Larry Langford decided to build a theme park.

Contracting garbage services to a company is a great idea. We do it here in Trussville, and I couldn’t be happier. For one, companies have to worry about little things like customer service. Just because the city isn’t doing the job doesn’t mean that they can’t regulate the company doing it. And the city doesn’t pay dollar one for the service. Those using the service pay for it.

But what if it doesn’t work out? Fairfield can always work an at-will termination for either party into their contract with whatever company they go with. That way, if they are not happy with the service, they can either go with someone else or go back to doing it themselves.
