Pell City PD and FD Get Raises

Posted by ALmod on November 15, 2005

As the daughter of a retired police officer, I’m glad to see this one. My dad also happens to live in Pell City. I graduated high school there. It’s a great place, and it’s growing.

The problem with growing cities is that they often forget to increase the fire and police services to those that a larger population and business community will need. Attracting police officers and firefighters is becoming a problem in the job market because these jobs don’t pay well at all. Would you be willing to put your life on the line every day for a job that pays less than your average desk job?

I understand that the other city employees want a raise, and it’s probably needed. But the question come in how much expendable revenue the city has. This may not be an across-the-board raise for city employees, but it’s a start. You want to start in the positions that are the most crucial, and police and fire employees are just that. Without them, Pell City would have a hard time attracting more businesses and residents and the tax dollars that they provide. However, with an increase in the number of police officers and firefighters, Pell City can continue to grow, bring in more tax dollars, and eventually give those raises that the city employees deserve. Way to think ahead, guys!
