Argo Again…

Posted by ALmod on February 11, 2007

The city council can’t seem to have enough members show up to meetings to form a quorum and pass a budget so that they can pay their first responders, roads are left in disrepair, there’s a lack of tax revenue, and so the problems keep on coming… It would take years for a newly elected official to clean up.

As my readers know, I’ve been toying with the idea of running for city council (or possibly mayor) for a while. But lately, the idea of trying to pull together the existing council and get everything done seems more than a little overwhelming. Apparently, the problems go back further than I’d realized.

A sign at the top of my street proposes a solution. There will be a meeting on Thursday, February 15 regarding a possible annex with Springville. The Springville City Council has formed a committee to explore the possibility, and it’s an opportunity for Argo residents to see what Springville has to offer. I personally wouldn’t mind the idea of a Springville annex. Springville has excellent first responder protection, a post office, and an established business community. The school system isn’t so bad, either. While we’re already zoned for Springville schools, I can see our property values going up instantly when we reap other benefits. Property taxes should not change, since those are collected through St. Clair County.

For those interested, the meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Springville Town Hall. A petition will also be available to sign.

As far as any prospective political career for me is concerned, I could always run in Springville.
