Town Rivalries

Posted by ALmod on April 8, 2007

All this talk about Argo and Springville got me to thinking about a few things.  What is it about Argo and Springville that creates such a rivalry between two towns?  I’ve noticed similar things between Trussville and Clay.  The sentiment for some Argo residents seems to be that Springville is just too snooty for them, whereas some Springville residents seem to think that Argo is too trashy for them.  If some people in Clay wanted to annex into Trussville, would we see something similar?  Then I got to thinking about it some more.  Are there other towns that are rivals in this way?  I’m not talking about just good ol’ fashioned football rivalries.  I’m talking about more than that.  Do Hoover and Vestavia Hills have it in for one another?  Do Pleasant Grove and Hueytown fight over anything?  What about Foley and Gulf Shores?  Talledega and Pell City?
