Why Many Iraq Vets Aren’t Voting for McCain

Posted by ALmod on September 9, 2008

Well, it just so happens that Sen. Jim Webb, also a Vietnam veteran, was running through a little piece of legislation that Sen. John McCain had some issues with.

The bill had 58 cosponsors, including Sens. Biden and Obama.  One name was conspicuously missing from that list of cosponsors:  Sen. John McCain.

The bill was passed with an overwhelming bipartisan majority.  It was then signed into law, while the president congratulated himself and McCain– two people who fought tooth and nail against the bill.  Sen. Webb has something to say about that, as you would imagine.

Is it any wonder why Barack Obama had an early lead on McCain in donations from Iraq War veterans?

One other interesting note.  There was another name of interest on the list of cosponsors for that bill:  Sen. Joe Lieberman.  Sen. Lieberman would later go on to state in last week’s Republican convention that Obama had never reached across party lines to accomplish anything significant.
