Ron Paul to John McCain: “No.”

Posted by ALmod on September 10, 2008

The McCain/Palin campaign has asked Ron Paul to support them, and the rEVOLutionary has an answer for them:  Thanks, but no thanks.

Now, to be fair, Ron Paul doesn’t like either candidate, but I still find this a significant blow to the McCain/Palin ticket.  Ron Paul is a rare jewel who represents what’s left of economic conservatism and constitutionalism for the Republicans.  I have a great deal of respect for him, as do a lot of other true conservatives.

The thing about Sen. McCain is that so much of his campaign focuses on how he’s supposed to cut spending.  That the person who I consider to be THE biggest opponent to tax and spend outright refused to support McCain sends the message that the senator from Arizona is not quite the fiscal savior that he keeps insisting he is.

Don’t look for him to get behind Barack Obama anytime soon, either.  (Heck!  Even I’m not a big fan of Obama’s economic policy unless he starts outlining some major spending cuts.)  But at least Obama’s campaign is running on more than one issue.
