Watch Out, Mike Huckabee!

Posted by ALmod on September 10, 2008

I’m actually starting to gain a great deal of respect for Mike Huckabee.  Throughout this process, he’s been just about sweet as pie with a minimum of (presumed) attacks.  That is to say, I don’t mean that he always gets his facts straight, but the guy just seems too nice to properly engage in attack politics.  As we see here, he actually DEFENDS BARACK OBAMA on the lipstick debacle:

Beware, Huck.  Four years ago, I was cheering for Sen. John McCain, and we all know how that one turned out.

I like Huckabee a lot and gladly voted for him here in Minnesota, his assuming the best even of his most dire opponents is one reason. However the evidence that Obama meant his words to be a cutting attack is overwhelming in context and by the fact the DNC website had this up for a while preceding the speech with clear reference to Palin intended.

Love you Huckabee, but Obama is honest to goodness pulling a clinton this time around.

I’m sorry, but I agree with Huckabee on this one. In context, it’s quite obvious that he was talking about the fact that McCain’s policies are so in line with the president’s. It’s no more referring to Palin than McCain was referring to Hillary when he used the exact same phrase to describe Sen. Clinton’s health care policy, and if the McCain/Palin campaign were honest, they’d admit that. Paris Hilton has more of a corner on the use of the word “hot” than Sarah Palin can claim on the word “lipstick.”

But the thing that really burns me up is that I fully expect the right to start tearing into Huckabee over this. I expect them to paint him as a naive sucker, and the governor just doesn’t deserve that. He’s a very perceptive and intelligent person, and being a decent person who refuses to unfairly attack another is not a character flaw.
