Who puts lipstick on a pig?

Posted by ALmod on September 10, 2008

Well, the McCain/Palin campaign is up in arms again.  Apparently, Barack Obama is shamlessly attacking Sarah Palin. How sexist of him!  Let’s see what all the fuss is about, shall we?

“You can put lipstick on a pig,” Barack Obama told a rally in a reference to a line in Sarah Palin’s vice presidential acceptance speech. “It’s still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It’s still going to stink after eight years.”

Lipstick on a pig, eh?  Where have I heard that line before?

Yeah!  That was the guy!

In all fairness to BOTH senators, the phrase means to take the same old policies and make them look new.  It’s been used by many politicians over time.  So let’s ask a female politician what she has to say about using the sexism card over every single little thing.

What with the pit bull joke still reverberating everywhere, I thought Obama would have done better to have chosen another phrase, or even to have made up something fresh and funny, I don’t know, maybe “spinners on Grandma’s Volvo,” although I guess that one wouldn’t work.

But with McCain’s very recent use of the same exact phrase, also about a woman, ready at hand from the YouTube, all this outraged womanhood stuff looks pretty silly.
